Oh dear…..check out today’s picture. A HUGE goanna was in the flower bed outside my studio today. Mr. W surprised it and it scurried up a tree. It is at least 6 foot long. This is the first time we have ever seen one on the property. It must have come up from the bush. They can rear up and run on their hind legs when threatened. I don’t think we’ll be wanting this creature as a pet. I wonder how you get rid of a goanna? These are issues I never had to deal with when I lived in South Dakota!

That thing is friggin’ huge! It looks like a gator climbed your tree.
LOL! I googled goannas to learn more and then ‘get rid of goanna’ to see what I could find and your blog came up on the search.
Do you add anything to your ground lamb? I learned that Lebanese / Turkish recipes call for shredded onion rather than chopped onion like we use in the states and, for some reason, it gives things a whole different taste that I like very much. I shred onions for more things now that I’ve discovered the difference.

Hi Sybil,
Hey great work on the menu – we had the same lunch today! 🙂
Hehehe I looked at the pic before I read your passage. I’m like “what is that?” I could only see the feet at first. Then “ohhhh it’s a goanna” and then I read your passage about wanting to get rid of it. I think fire will work a charm hahaha though I bet at this time of year that might not be the best idea.
Maybe like Sonya said, you could google it? I have cats and they tend to scare away any lizards we have – though admittedly ours are much smaller. I’m inner-city afterall 😉
Speaking of foods tasting different, Sonya – I’ve found boiled brocolli tastes sweeter than steamed! Isn’t that strange!
